Stephen A. Smith Meltdown on ESPN over Brett Favre Comeback

Brett Favre

The Sports Baron

Stephen A. Smith is over the whole Brett Favre "love affair" in the media. In an ESPN interview over the weekend Stephen A. throws out his standard lines like "this is uttery ridiculous" and he is "sick to his stomach" about The World Wide Leader's infatuation with Favre. He sounds like a screaming idiot, but his argument makes sense.

We agree with Stephen A., the media loves Brett Favre and John Madden has wanted to service him for years. Brett is holding

Favre could return, do the Packers want him?

When Brett Favre announced his retirement, I wrote this :

"A few days ago Favre was lobbying for the Packers to get Moss. Right after Moss signs with the Patriots, Favre announces he is retiring. If he is not retiring because of Moss, then why is the timing so convienent, and why was he on board with improving the 2008 Packers a few days ago? Personally I feel this decision was made based on emotion, and I don't think Favre is done for good. This Packers team is a team that can compete. Their defense is

Super Bowl Prop Bets

Disclaimer:  When I bet player props, I usually just lay 1% on each bet.  My book offered over 150 props, and I cut it down to 25, but I'm not sure if I want to cut it down further.  I usually bet 5% per football game, so these props equal about five bets, which I am comfortable with.  I'll try to include some insight to these so you can decide if you agree or disagree, allowing you to trim down the options if you want fewer plays.

Tom Brady Props:

Tom Brady UNDER 25.5 completions (+100)
Tom Brady NO interceptions (-115)

A Super Bowl XLII Lock and a Few Beer Commercials (Video)

I think that you and I can agree that one of the greatest things about the Super Bowl - other then football and Tom Petty at half - is the beer and commercials. So rather than just give you my Super Bowl prediction this week I figured I would dish out a few beer commercials for your enjoyment as well.

The Lock
I have been having a pretty decent post season, if I do say so myself. I am 7-3 coming into this week and I am looking at winning my eighth so let lets get to it.

I think that the Giants should feel really good about their chances. They played

NEW ENGLAND (-12) vs NY GIANTS:  NEW ENGLAND 6-2

It only seems fitting that I write this while I run my franchise on Madden.  You see, I don't really play the games in Madden, I just simulate them all, act as the GM of the team, and try to build a dynasty.  Eventually things get to the point where my team is a guarantee to make it to the Super Bowl, and I shoot for bigger things like an undefeated season.  When it comes to the point where my team goes undefeated I usually move on to a new team.  Afterall, how unrealistic is it that a team

T minus 6 until the Super Bowl

This week the Super Bowl madness begins. I think right now we're probably all jealous of those who are already in Glendale or are en route to Glendale. I know I'd probably sacrifice something ridiculously crucial like my right hand to have the chance to experience Super Bowl week. Okay, maybe my left hand. But let's dive into some football links here...

NFL System: Conference Playoff Projections

In my opinion, last weekend was one of the best playoff weekends in recent history.  You had the snow in Green Bay, a relatively close game in New England, then two upsets on Sunday.  The best part is that we are left with four teams who I would accept in the finals.  There are no 8-8 teams that bring up the complaints of "Should an 8-8 team be considered the champions?"  There are no teams that just got hot the last few weeks of the season and barely made it in to the playoffs.  All four of these teams are solid, which makes this coming weekend another weekend

Sports Betting Gone Bad

I know in some of my previous posts I’ve mentioned that I don’t bet on sports and I never plan to bet on sports again. It has been nine years (1999) since the last time I made a wager on a professional or any other type of sporting event and I plan to keep it that way. To be honest, I’m no good at picking these games against the line. It seems as though when I don’t place a wager I’m dead-on and when I have placed wagers in the past I couldn’t hit a game if my life literally depended on it. Maybe its the anxiety involved or the amount of pressure with making

NFL System: Divisional Playoff Projections

The system was very successful last year in the divisional round of the playoffs.  I remember because I was in Australia at the time.  The hotel I was staying at had a sportsbook, which wasn't uncommon, as there were sportsbooks on every street corner.  I won almost every bet, including small prop bets like "First score will be a field goal" and "Team X to win by X points" bets.  The end result was that the hotel had to dig in to their own safe to pay me out, and I celebrated with a Louis Vuitton tie and tickets to the Australian Open.

NFL System: Wild Card Projections

I will have more on these games in a later article.  For now, here are some quick thoughts on the wild card games.

WASHINGTON @ SEATTLE (-3.5):  WASHINGTON 5-3

I think the key to this game will be how Seattle does with the run on both sides of the ball.  If they can stop Clinton Portis they will have an easier time with the Redskins offense.  However, they need a solid effort from their running game, which has been off and on all season.  I think this game will be close.  I like Washington to cover, and wouldn't be surprised if they won this game.
