Saturday's Picks: I can't wait for a 9 to 5 job!

From now on, when I wake up to find that my dog has peed on a case of beer, I'm not going to wager that day.  Navy didn't come close to covering, despite running for about 1000 yards, and Syracuse got hammered.  That leaves me up 0.31 units on the season.  It's a good thing I followed Accuscore's baseball picks and went with the Devil Rays and Orioles to bring some of that money back.

I'll be honest about tomorrow.  Looking at a slate of 36 games is kind of overwhelming, especially since I'm working from 10 AM in the morning until about

Friday Picks, Thursday Results, and the first draft results of the year

I swore to myself that this year would be the year that I would drop down to one or two fantasy football leagues.  Last year I was in four leagues, winning two of them, just missing the playoffs in one, and getting destroyed in the other (thank you LaMont Jordan and Edgerrin James.)  This year I anticipated only being in my family league, and maybe starting a league up at work.  Then I got an invitation to join a league with some friends from college.  Then I got an invitation from Smallwood to join a league, which drafted last night.  My wife doesn't ever worry

I like the favorites in this weekend's blowouts

So LSU easily covered the spread (opened at 16, moved to 19 in most books) which AccuScore expected.  By trouncing Mississippi State on a Thursday, the #2 Tigers raised the bar for other Top Ranked teams like USC, Oklahoma, and Texas.

I don't have all the spreads in front of me, but I'm sure each of these teams are favored by 37 points or more.  I don't think the BCS computers give any credit for killing a bad team by 50 vs. by 40 points, but to win the battle of public opinion, these Pac 10 and Big 12 Teams will want to show that they can absolutely dominate

UCLA Basketball Named Preseason #1

Posted by jonlee in UCLANCAAB

College football might be kicking off this weekend but in my mind, there's always time for a little college basketball. Lindy's preview magazine came out today and tabbed UCLA its preseason #1. The Bruins are also the favorite as listed by several Vegas sportsbooks.

What does this mean in real world terms? Absolutely nothing really. Rankings don't get you wins in March. It does however, mean that the Bruins are back big-time, both on the court and in the minds and perceptions of the nation. As much as Ben Howland's defense-first

I have 2 picks that should be able to cover the spreads fairly easy. I also have "real" money on these picks as well.

LSU PS -17 100

To start off the season, let me throw something out here.  I am not a professional handicapper.  I am like the majority of you all.  I work 40-50 hours a week, I follow sports in my free time (and sometimes in my not so free time), my retirement fund is set up through a 401K account, and I gamble on sports just to make a little extra money for a nice trip or for any other non-important payment.  I'm willing to bet that a lot of you are in the same boat as me.  Therefore, realize what you are getting here.  I am excellent at NFL, just because I follow the NFL

Max and I

Max is getting ready for his first NFL, NCAAF season.  He has a natural act for picking point spreads with his paws. I just put a little strawberry syrup (max's Fav) on the bottom of his pad take the lines with me out back and let him do his work, I rarely question his ability, and either will you!

7 Things the NFL must change now!

OK, what's wrong with the NFL? Before you read on be sure you read my previous post about everything that's right about the NFL. Not only is football a great sport but the NFL is the best run league in professional sports. Bar none. But even the greatest have some room for improvement so here goes...Roger, I hope you are taking notes. Only too  happy to help. By the way, did you get the fruit basket we sent you? The little plastic wrapped biscotti dipped in chocolate are to

I like Yahoo!Sports.  I think the web pages load quickly, I get the box score data I need, the new site's got nice pretty photos, but is it just me or aren't their forays into investigative journalism kind of funny?

First, they decide to create controversy because Reggie Bush's parents got some cheap or free rent.  With all the things that go wrong in amateur and professional sports is this really the big problem that needs to be brought to people's attention?  What good were they hoping to achieve by cracking this case?

Now there

Bombed Your Draft? Don't Worry

Posted by twilliams in Tim WilliamsNFLFootballFantasy

I wasn't planning on writing a post today, but that was before my best friend sent me a message about his fantasy draft. He has never played fantasy football before, and was talked in to it in time to draft on Monday. The result? He takes Drew Brees with the #7 pick in the first round, then takes Donovan McNabb with his second pick.

As you can probably guess, his team needs some work. I've seen worse moves (Santana Moss and Chris Cooley as first and second round picks by a Redskins fan), but I think my friend is still in the chase. He's got some decent receivers (Randy
